Watch as we resurface 3/4" thick MDF on a ShopSabre 4896 CNC machine using Amana Tool®’s Solid Carbide Insert Knife CNC Spoilboard Router Bit with Scorers, 2+2 Design no. RC-2251 and 45° V-Groove Solid Carbide Insert Knife Signmaking CNC Router Bit no. RC-1045.

The spoilboard router bit resurfaces the MDF whereas the V-groove router bit is used to make a 6" grid on the table. The grid helps with alignment, placement and measuring the part to be cut. This way, we know where on the table to put a piece so it corresponds with the digital model and can be sure it's square to the rails. This step is not necessary but it makes setup quicker and more accurate.

Amana Tool’s spoilboard surfacing & rabbeting router bit features a specialty grade solid carbide insert knife designed for MDF. The unique 2+2 insert knife design contains two cutting flutes and two up-shear scorers, which provide a smoother finish at the bottom of the cut than traditional two-knife style router bits. This tool comes complete with the MDF-Grade insert knives and Amana also offers optional insert knives for softer materials such as wood and chipboard. Both the spoilboard and V-groove router bits are engineered with an Amana-exclusive carbide grade for the highest quality of cut, maximum cutting efficiency, faster material removal process and the longest tool life.

The spoilboard is a removable work surface mounted to the top of the router table which protects the table from damage as the router bits cut in and through the material. It is generally a good idea to resurface / bottom clean often as the spoilboard surface may become uneven over time.
